Connecting takes about two minutes and you only do it once. After that you ask for an app in plain words, and it’s yours to keep — in your AI, and at your own web link.

You’ll need an account first — sign in to create one (free during the beta, no card), and your personal connector link is waiting on your account page. Prefer to keep everything on your own machine? The engine is open source and you can run it yourself instead.

Sign in at openmcp.app, then open your account page. Near the top you’ll see Your connector link with a Copy button. It looks like this:

Treat it like a password. The link is your personal space — anyone who has it can reach your apps. Don’t paste it into a public chat, a screenshot, or an issue report.

2. Add it to your AI

Claude on the web (claude.ai) — the recommended path

This is where everything works today, and where we test first.

  • Open Settings › Connectors and choose Add custom connector.
  • Paste your link into the URL field. Give it a name you’ll recognize, e.g. openmcp.
  • A sign-in window opens: use the same account you use here, and approve access. That step is openmcp.app asking you to authorize the connection — you are approving access to your own space.
  • Back in a chat, make sure the connector is switched on for that conversation (the tools or connectors control near the message box).

Then just ask. “Build me a habit tracker.” The app appears in the chat, and it’s still there tomorrow.

ChatGPT

Add the same link under Settings › Connectors → Add a connector. Connecting works and your AI can build apps, read and update your data through chat.

What is not there yet: ChatGPT doesn’t render our app interface inside the chat — it uses a different widget format, and the standard for this is still converging. So in ChatGPT you get the results as text, while the app itself opens with its full interface at openmcp.app/app. Same account, same data.

Claude Desktop and Claude Code

The same connector link works, and the tools work. There is currently an upstream bug in those two clients that can leave an app stuck on “Loading component…” in the chat itself. It has to be fixed on their side and is reported. If you hit it, open the same app on claude.ai web or at openmcp.app/app — nothing is lost.

3. Ask for your first app

Say what you want the way you’d say it to a person. If you’re not sure where to start, these three work well:

  • “Build me a habit tracker for my three morning habits.”
  • “Make a reading list I can add books to, with a ‘finished’ toggle.”
  • “Make me a trip budget for the trip I’m planning.”

Want it different? Ask again — “make the numbers bigger”, “add a weekly total”. Your AI edits the app in place; your data stays where it is.

There’s also an App Store of ready-made apps: ask your AI to install one, and it’s yours to customize.

4. Use your apps anywhere

  • In any connected AI. Ask for it by name — “open my habit tracker”.
  • On the web. openmcp.app/app lists every app you have and opens it full-size, no AI needed.

5. If something goes wrong

It asks me to sign in again

Normal. Access is short-lived by design and your AI renews it quietly in the background; after a long gap it will ask once more. Your data is unaffected.

Sign-in loops, or the connector says it’s not authorized

  • Check you pasted the whole link, ending in /mcp, with no trailing space.
  • Remove the connector and add it again — a half-finished first attempt is the usual cause.
  • Make sure you sign in with the same account you use on openmcp.app. A different email is a different space, with different apps.

My AI says it can’t find my apps

The connector has to be enabled in that particular conversation. Turn it on, then ask “what apps do I have?” — if the list comes back, you’re connected.

The app shows up as text instead of an interface

That’s the host, not your app — see the per-host notes above. Open it at openmcp.app/app for the full interface.

Still stuck

Email [email protected] with what you tried and which app you’re using — that’s a real person, and beta reports genuinely shape what gets fixed first. Please don’t include your connector link.

The engine behind this service is open source (AGPL). If you’d rather run it on your own machine, with your data never leaving it, start from the project README. Same engine, no account needed.
